Today I wanted to do a review on Faber-Castell Metallic Gelatos Color & Clear Stamp.

When I first heard the name ''gelatos'', I'll be honest my first thought was ice cream. Once I got pass my ice cream thoughts, I found out that this product could be used in many different ways. It could be used wet, dry, on a stamp and even on fabric. According to Faber-Castell's website they describe the product as:

''Gelatos® Colors are creamy sticks infused with brilliant color. The color glides easily onto paper and can then be dissolved with water to create watercolor effects or left to dry for vibrant bursts of color. Try stamping with the Gelatos® or apply a wash of color to your crafts! The acid-free and odorless Gelatos® work beautifully on all types of surfaces including flocked paper, canvas and embellishments.''

I also notice that Faber-Castell has 36 different colors in there Gelatos. You can buy them by color or you can buy certain packages. Like the one that I'll be taking about today is there Metallic Gelatos, which incuded the colors Metallic Melon, Metallic Grape, Metallic Blueberry and Metallic Mint. Also in each package you get 1 paintbrush and 1 clear stamp. On there website the price of the Gelatos are $9.95.

The actual Gelatos look much like a chapstick and the texture of the medium has that same chapstick consistent but its a lot more creamer. If you need more product all you do is twist the bottom of the container, just like how you would if you were using chapstick.

After reading about the product I decided to do some more research. So I went to Faber-Castell blog, to look up past projects using these Gelatos. Some of my favorites were this card, this inspirational canvas and this watercolor card. I also found this youtube video really helpful.
 


After seeing all of these projects I wanted to start out with a simple diy, that could really show off the Gelatos. Thats when I thought of washi tape. I had been seeing different diys for ''how to make your own washi tape'' all over the web. So I though this would be perfect way to use the Gelatos.

I used the Gelatos both dry and wet on the masking tape. I found that they created a really pretty background that was great for stamping and doodling.


I used the color Metallic Melon (which is an orange color) dry on the masking tape. I basically rub the Gelato all over the masking tape and blended it in with my finger. While using it dry I found that it was easy to blend, the color was very vibrate and it dried pretty quickly.


On the second piece of masking tape I used the colors Metallic Mint and Metallic Blueberry wet. I first rub the Gelatos all over the masking tape and blended both colors together by adding water. By using the Gelatos wet, it gave you a ''watercolor'' look. I especially liked using these two colors together. The one thing that did surprise me was that I thought after adding water that the Gelatos would loose some of there metallic shine but the colors were still very vibrate and had a nice metallic shimmer to them.

Overall I would give this product 5 out of 5 stars. I thought the Gelatos really lived up to there description and worked the way they were suppose to. To me these Gelatos would be great for different projects ranging from simple cards to actual mix media paintings. I'm also a girl who likes cute packaging and making these Gelatos look like chapsticks is pretty darn cute. Right now I'm loving there new Gelatos Designer Colors in 50's Diner ( the colors look so pretty).
