Darby Smart: Made By Me

Hello Everyone,
As you all know by now, I help design a box for Darby Smart! Well a few weeks ago, I got my own Darby Smart box and I finally got to play around with the supplies.

So today I though it would be fun to show you the kit in more detail and show you how I design my own necklace (from the kit).

Your kit will look something like the above photo when you get it. In the kit you will get all the supplies you need to make the project.

It always cool to see your name in print! This card will have all the ''how to'' instructions on the back.

This picture shows everything you get in the kit. Which is:
  • Gold curb chain
  • 3 lucky animals (horse, elephant & camel)
  • Awl
  • Gems
  • Gold Findings
  • 3-in-1 Jewelry Design Tool
  • DIY Instructions (not in the picture)

When I saw all the animals, the first one that caught my attention was the camel. Then once I saw this emerald green gem, the movie Jewel of the Nile came to my mind and I instantly knew what I wanted to do.

On a side note, if you haven't seen Jewel of the Nile or Romancing the Stone, I highly recommend it. The first movie (Romancing the Stone) is about a romance novelist (Kathleen Turner) who goes off to Colombia to save her sister and in the process meets an adventurous guy (Michael Douglas) who ends up helper her (to save her sister). Jewel of the Nile is the sequel to Romancing the Stone and most of the movie takes place in a middle east country (which is where the camels come into play lol).

Ok, back to the necklace!

I decided to use one big gem in the middle and then took some chain to wrap around the entire gem. I thought it looked more put together that way. I also used one of the gold spacers (which is on the camel's head) and glued a little pink gem on top of that.

Overall I love, love, love the way it turned out! With all the gems, gold spacers and chain you could come up with so many fun necklaces.

What do you think? Do you like the camel or would you use the horse or elephant in your necklace?

xo Katie
