DIY: Inspirational Wall Art

Hello Everyone,

I have a fun project for you today, which involves two of my favorite things. Those two things being Xyron and Dolly Parton (lol). I promise we will get to Dolly Parton in a minute!

Today's project is part of my collaboration with Xyron since I'm a member of their design team! This means you will be seeing a Xyron machine in action! For this particular project, I will be showcasing the Xyron® Creative Station Lite. I've talked about Xyron's Creative Stations before, so if you want to learn more about them, then click here.

Also, in this project, I will be using items from Gypsy Soul Laser Cuts. Now if you have never heard of Gypsy Soul Laser Cuts, they are a company that makes laser cut chipboard shapes and mini albums. Besides those two ''categories'', they also offer ATC (artist trading card) items, tags, mini album kits dimensional art, miniatures, and more! As you can see, their items can be used in a wide variety of mix media/craft projects.

So how does Dolly Parton fit into all of this, you ask? Well, I was sent the Butterflies and Dragonflies in my ''supply kit'' for this particular project. Now every time I see a butterfly it reminds me of Dolly Parton because she loves butterflies and features them in her work. If you are familiar with Dolly Parton, you may know that she wrote a song called ''Love Is like a Butterfly'' and just loves butterflies in general. I'm a huge fan of Dolly Parton and thought it would be fun to create a mix-media wall piece to honor the country singer!

Let's get crafty!

Supplies
Gypsy Soul Laser Cuts: Butterflies and Dragonflies
Gypsy Soul Laser Cuts: Words & Phrases 1
DCWV Treasures: Teal Music Notes
Wooden Slate
College Materials (I'm, using a picture of Dolly Parton)
Paint
Foam Brush
Glitter Glue (optional)
X-acto Knife (not pictured)
Glitter

Before Getting Started: Now, if you're not a fan of Dolly (which you totally should be), you can still follow along with this project. You can simply use the techniques, materials and the entire DIY as inspiration when creating your own wall hanging. Just substitute your favorite inspirational person for Dolly and follow along with the project as normal!

Step 1: Paint your wooden slate and then set it to the side to dry.

Step 2: Poke your Gypsy Soul Laser Cuts out of their packaging (you may need to use an x-acto knife). Then paint your Gypsy Soul Laser Cuts in varies colors and then set them to the side to dry.

Step 3: Grab your butterflies from Gypsy Soul Laser Cuts and run them through your Xyron Creative Station Lite machine. Once your laser cuts have been run through the machine, rub the top of the sticker paper and peel off one of the laser cuts.

After peeling off the laser cut, you  may need to take a toothpick and clean up any places on your laser cut, where adhesive may have gotten (like around the edges or in some of the smaller holes).

Finally, flip your laser cut over, so the adhesive side is facing up and sprinkle the glitter on top of your laser cut.

Step 4: Now grab all of your paper pieces and run them through your Xyron Creative Station Lite machine.

Side Note: Before running your paper pieces through your Xyron machine, you may want to playing around with them to see how you want your layout to look. Then once you have a layout that you're happy with, you might want to take a picture with your phone, so you can remember where all the pieces go.

Step 5: Now take each piece and rub the top of the sticker paper. Then peel each paper piece off the sticker paper and adhere them on top of your wooden slate. You will first want to adhere your larger pieces of scrapbooking paper/college materials then add all of your smaller laser cuts.

When you're happy with the look of your piece, add a sawtooth look (if necessary to the back) and your ready to hang your new wall art!

I just loved how this project turned out! The butterflies and the two phrases really pull the entire project together! Also, I didn't show this in the tutorial, but you can use glitter glue to dress up those small areas of your college piece. I decided to add some glitter glue to Dolly Parton's shirt where her rhinestones originally were. By doing so, I think it gives the piece a nice look and it compliments back with the glittered butterflies.
Also, you may have noticed that I used my Xyron to add glitter to my butterflies, instead of a decoupage glue! I can't tell you how much easier and cleaner (if we minus the glitter mess) that the process of adding the glitter to the laser cuts, actually was! So you definitely want to keep that little trick in mind, for future projects.

As always, to follow along with all the Xyron fun, don't forget to like them on Facebook and to follow their Pinterest page for more project inspiration.

So what do you think? Do you like this inspirational wall art?
