DIY: Bookplates

Hello Everyone!

If you love books, cats, coloring, and labeling, then you will LOVE today's project! This is because today, we are creating our very own bookplates.

Today's project is part of my collaboration with Xyron since I'm a member of their design team! This means that you will be seeing a Xyron machine in action! For this particular project, I will be showcasing the Xyron® Creative Station Lite. I've talked about the Xyron® Creative Station Lite before, so if you want to learn more about it, then click here.

Also, in this project, I will be using items from Newton’s Nook Designs! Now if you have never heard of Newton’s Nook Designs, they are a company which makes the CUTEST stamps and die cuts! Specifically, they create whimsical designs which include animals, flowers, sentiments, and everyday life. My favorites stamps from Newton’s Nook Designs were the ones that focused on animals. This is because their animal designs/stamps reminded me of illustrations that you would see in a children's book.

Since I loved the animal designs so much, I decided to pick the stamp set called Newton’s Book Club, for this project!

As previously mentioned, the project we are making today is bookplates. These bookplates are so fun and addictive to make, that you will literally want a bookplate for each of your books. Also, this project is perfect to make if you are going back to school because it's a cute way to label your notebooks and planners.

Finally (I promise this is the last thing), keeping reading this post to the very bottom to find out about two giveaways!

Supplies
White Scrapbooking Paper
Acrylic Block
Black Ink
Colored Pencils and/or Markers
Ruler
Scissors
Pencil (not pictured)

Step 1: Cut your pieces of white scrapbooking paper to be 3 ½ inches by 4 inches. I ended up rounding the corners of my paper, but that is completely optional.

Step 2: Grab one of the stamps from Newton's Book Club and adhere it to your acrylic block. Then dip your stamp in black ink and begin stamping your image onto your white paper.

Keep repeating this step until you have as many bookplates as you like.

Step 3: Using your colored pencils or markers, color in each of your bookplates. Then draw a small line (using your marker) under your stamped image, so you can have a place to write a name later.

Crafty Side Note: I ended up adding a dash line border around each bookplate, to give the bookplates that extra little touch. However, this extra touch is totally optional.

Step 4: Grab all of your bookplates and begin sliding them through your Xyron Creative Station Lite.

Keep repeating this process until you have run each label through your Xyron Creative Station Lite.

Once all your bookplates have been run through your Xyron machine, you are ready to add them to your books!

I love how these bookplates turned out! Also, they were so easy to create and probably took me about an hour to make, since I am a slow color-er (lol).

On a side note, you may have noticed that I used these bookplates in some children's books. I mean, a book called ''Pizza Cat'' is dying to have a cat bookplate, right? Needless to say, these bookplates do not have to be used in children's book. Personally, I think a bunch of these bookplates, along with an actual book, would make such a cute gift for someone in your life.

So, I bet you are now wondering about that giveaway!

Well, Xyron and Newton's Nook Designs are both having a giveaway this week. Each company is going to giveaway a prize pack that includes a $25 gift certificate to Newton's Nook Designs and a Xyron Mega Runner. Below, is how you can enter for both giveaways!

To enter the Xyron giveaway all you need to do is leave a comment on any (or all) Newton's Nook Design projects on the Xyron FB page this week.

To enter the Newton's Nook Designs giveaway all you need to do is comment on their blog (specifically the Xyron Hop blog posts).

As always, to follow along with all the crafty fun and to never miss a new design team member's project, check out Xyron's Facebook and Pinterest page!

What do you think? Do you like these bookplates?

  2. Clever idea. My kids kept all of their books. Their kids would have
enjoyed seeing that the books they were reading had originally been
    their parents. Great idea.
