Book Review: Craft Corps

Hello Everyone,
Its been such a long time since I've done a book review. So today I thought it would be fun to talk about a book that I read quiet frequently, when I'm having a crafters block (its like writers block but for crafters). The book is called Craft Corps and it was written by Vickie Howell.

Before I get into the book you may recognize Vickie Howell's name because she has written tons of books about crocheting and knitting. On top of that she was the host of  Knitty Gritty (on HGTV) and as been on other crafting shows as well. I have always enjoyed her crocheting books, so I was eager to pick up this ''new'' book by her.

In Craft Corps, Vickie Howell interviews tons of ''crafting'' celebrities. She asks them questions about their life and their journey into the craft world. In the book she interviews 30 people who have had an impact on the crafting world. Some of those people being Cathie Filian, Traci Bautista, Carol Duvall, Mark Montano,
Mary Englebreit and so many more (you can check out the complete list here). Beside interviewing these people Vickie Howell also includes bios of 60  ''every-day extraordinary people '' (http://vickiehowell.com/books/) throughout the pages of the book.

To be honest I couldn't put the book down because it was so interesting to read. Each person had a complete different story which was inspiring and just fun to read. The interviews themselves are about 3 to 4 pages long and are in a Q and A format. I personally liked the length and format because you were getting real answers from the person and it didn't sound like some regurgitate biography. Also each person talks about their own tips and tricks when it comes to crafting.

Within all of these interviews the main theme throughout the book is the change and evolution of the crafting community. For example, how blogging plays a role in communicating with other crafters. Some of the interviewers also give their thoughts on having a business, selling online,  and selling locally.

Like I said in the beginning, I always go back to this book when I'm having a crafters block. To me reading about each person struggle and success is inspiring. I love this book and would total recommend it to any craft lover. Its a light read and really eye opening into the world of crafting.

If you click here, you can see a trailer for the book Craft Corps where Vickie Howell talks about the book. If you want to learn more about Craft Corps or Vickie Howell you can check out her blog here.

As always, have any of you read this book or do you have a craft book that you could recommend?
